Check out the beautiful new designs in The Paper Element’s 2009 Spring Collection!

This season, we’ve created some papers that are perfect for the kids in your life and one line that captures the romance and beauty of your life.

“Boys and Girls,” “Everyday Kids,” and “More Than You Can See” will all be perfect for your kid-themed pages.

“Boys and Girls” and “Everyday Kids” are versatile enough for pages about my 5-year-old Hannah Montana fan AND her 15-year-old favorite babysitter, or my 11-year-old Guitar Hero dude. Their bright, active-themed pages include abstracted images of kids on bikes and rollerblades, doing cheer and gymnastics routines, skateboarding, playing soccer, and lots more. Chipboard cut-outs, rub-ons, and cardstock stickers complete the collections.

“More Than You Can See,” in reds, blues, and greens will give you a classic palate for the younger kids in your life, and its rub-ons make this one of the only paper lines available that speak to the joys and challenges of raising a child with autism.

Rounding out the new releases is “A Night to Remember.” In classic black, creme, and white with scrolls, stripes, and chandeliers, these papers may not be for adults only, but they will certainly give you the perfect backdrop for your romantic Valentine’s photos, your spring wedding photos, or the memories of your last New Year’s Eve gathering.

And remember, “you have to feel it to believe it.” All Paper Element papers are printed on heavyweight, textured cardstock.

Sue’s Sweetheart Challenge

This week’s challenge comes from Design Team member Susan Lui. Check out the adorable door hanger she’s created with The Paper Element’s Sweet papers. Sweet is still in stock at some of our online retailers, including in a great product kit from Addicted to Scrapbooking. So as you’re shopping around for the perfect Valentine’s papers, don’t forget Sweet!

Remember, you don’t need to use Paper Element products (though we’d love to see what you create with them). Also, in answer to Kim’s question (posted in the January 10 “Swirls” challenge, the layouts should be new creations. Each completed project gets you entered into a drawing for some free products that month. Let’s see what you can do!

As Valentine’s Day is just around the corner, I find myself reaching out for patterned papers and embellishments which remind me of the occasion. Patterned papers in shades of pink, red and white, little heart-shaped embellishments and romantic blossoms. So my challenge to you is to create a layout, card or even an altered item which must have some pink and hearts in it. It doesn’t have to be a Valentine’s Day layout. I altered a wooden hanger using The Paper Element patterned papers in shades of pink and cut out a heart from matching patterned paper. I also used heart-shaped buttons as centres for my cluster of flowers.

Welcome our January Guest Designer, Cathy La Hay!

A big welcome to our January Guest Designer, Cathy La Hay. Cathy will be designing with our acrylic albums, so watch for a reveal a little later in the month. We can’t wait to see what she does!

Hi, My name is Cathy La Hay and I live in Lake Villa, Illinois with my husband Joe, my biggest supporter of this wonderful hobby and our two beautiful Golden Retrievers, Louie and Abbey. I’m glad to have been given the opportunity to create for The Paper Element as their Guest designer this month. Thank you so much.

I’ve been scrapbooking for over 4 years now. I would guess I started the way 99% of us have by being introduced to it by a friend who dragged me to a party and there has been no turning back.

I consider my style to be a soft chic style with an added kick of something to WOW you with. I don’t plan anything ever. It just becomes. Whether I’m working on a layout or a mini album. Over the past 6 months Acrylic albums have become my passion. They are so fun to work with. It is this passion that has brought me here to The Paper Element. Combining their beautiful double sided papers with their beautiful acrylic and the added bonus of their fantastic rub ons. What could be better.

I hope you like what I have created.

Blog Challenge: Swirls

I just love papers with fun swirls on it, like The Paper Element’s new Tinsel Town collection! My favorite thing to do with swirls is to use an exacto knife to cut parts of the paper so that I can slip a photo in the slit. The cuts frame the photo so nicely!!

My challenge to you is to use a knife or scissors to cut parts of the background paper to slip a photo into. I can’t wait to see your creations!!!

I took this photo of the Blue Flannel swirl a few weeks ago, and having just returned from northern Minnesota where my kids went sliding on two different occasions, I can’t wait to break out this paper and play with some snowy pictures! Isn’t it gorgeous? This is from the paper called “Pajama Party.”

Challenge: holiday favorites

My challenge is about whatever helps get you through the holidays. For me, I love to sit and relax with my Venti Starbuck’s latte and my latest scrapbook or decorating magazine and cuddle up in a chair for some peace and quiet. My husband likes to take the paper and retreat to the “library”.

So, whatever your “get you through the holidays” is, I want you to do a lo about it. Have fun and I can’t wait to see what you come up with!!

Blog challenge: Stitching it!

Sewing, both by hand and machine, makes perfect scrapbook page
embellishments. I love the unique touch it brings to the layout! It may
take some time, but the stitches create dimension and can make
attractive borders for photos, journaling or other elements. You can
create your own embellishements or even stitch your elements to your
page. Once you get started, the possibilities are endless… False
stiching may also be interesting to add some design to a layout.

For inspiration, I created this layout “Alsace”, using a picture of my
mother, dressed up as a traditional Alsacian girl, and my grandfather. I
choose the “Peppermint” paper from the “Deck The Halls” line, to add
color to this black and white picture. I also used a cardstock sticker
from the same line.

So show us how you can stitch (using any technique: by hand, machine or
drawn). Add a link to your creation in a comment and you might win a
fabulous Paper Element prize at the end of the month!

Blog challenge: Scrapping the holidays

This week’s blog challenge comes from Design Team member Kimberlee Croucher:

Can you believe Christmas is right around the corner? The shopping days are dwindling down, the hunt to find the perfect Christmas tree is on, and yuletide carols play on the radio. In the middle of all of the hustle and bustle, it’s nice to sit back with a steaming cup of hot cocoa and create a scrappy masterpiece.

Tinsel Town, one of the newest lines from the Paper Element, really got me in the mood to start scrapping the holidays. I had to grab up this photo of my daughter and her best friend when they were only 3 and start scrapping my page. I added some glitter and glitz, but my ultimate goal was to let both the beautiful paper and precious photos shine through. I think I accomplished that balance with my Christmas Pals page.

Now it’s time to show use what you’ve got. I know you’ve been itching to scrap that photo of your Christmas tree or make the perfect page for that picture of Aunt June’s famous fruitcake. Whatever holiday memory speaks to you, photograph it and scrap it. Add a link to your creation to your comment and you just might win a fabulous Paper Element prize! Good luck and Happy Holidays!
